We’re looking for a talented and creative individual to join our amazing team as the Graphic Design Specialist. As our new Graphic Design Specialist, you will manage our graphic file library, design and layout electronic and print publications, and develop creative concepts for various uses for a variety of audiences. We are looking for someone who has a Bachelor's degree in creative/graphic design, fine arts, or a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in creative/graphic designing for public agency, advertising agency, or client-side advertising department. AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION

Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
Position Status: Permanent
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional work outside of regular hours for special projects
Location: Liberal Arts Campus (LAC)
Salary: Range 35 $5,802.25 - $7,152.10
Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the general supervision assists Long Beach City College (LBCC) in communicating an appealing and positive visual image through digital, electronic and print media. This position creates, designs and produces a wide variety of informational materials for print and electronic distribution and/or visual display in support of the College's communications, public relations and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in creative/graphic design, fine arts, or a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in creative/graphic designing for public agency, advertising agency, or client-side advertising department; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified from further consideration. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing if they are moving forward in the selection process.

If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs***
in-person or online:
- written examination(s)
- qualifications appraisal oral examination
- performance examination
- technical oral examination
  (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.

Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.

*** PLEASE NOTE: The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut-off score) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District. Applicants that most closely meet the needs of the District will proceed with the recruitment process. ***
