Description:
Vistra Communications is seeking a Technical Editor to support the DoD Military-Civilian Transition Office (MCTO) to be part of a team that will provide comprehensive programmatic research, analysis, and support services to facilitate the smooth transition of Service members, Reserve Component (RC) members, and their families into civilian life. The team will be responsible for conducting thorough assessments, developing actionable products, drafting documents, and offering recommendations to enhance the transition process. This role will provide support to the MCTO in their missions to ensure the delivery of cohesive, outcome-based training, events, products, and courses that align with the diverse needs of transitioning individuals and their communities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide editorial services, along with the development of documents compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Presidential Plain Writing Act of 2010.
2. Provide editorial review of all DHRA MCTO products, documents, briefs, etc. Utilize standard terms, phrases, themes, and consistent language, adhering to DoDI 5040.02, Visual Information (VI), and the DoD Visual Style Guide. Maintain a library of the above for future reference when drafting material.
3. Review and edit correspondence, curriculum, and programmatic documents.
4. Provide recommendations to management through presentations or written reports and confer with managers to ensure changes are effective.
5. Reviewing and editing technical documents, reports, manuals, specifications, and other materials for clarity, accuracy, consistency, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
6. Ensuring that content is clear, concise, and effectively communicates complex technical concepts to the intended audience.
7. Collaborating with authors, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to improve the quality, accuracy, and readability of technical content. Providing constructive feedback and suggestions to enhance content flow, organization, and coherence.
8. Managing documents throughout the editing process, including version control, tracking changes, and ensuring document integrity. Coordinating with authors and team members to establish timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
9. Conducting quality assurance checks to verify the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of technical content. Proofreading documents to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
10. Conducting research and fact-checking to verify the accuracy and validity of technical information, data, and references. Ensuring that all claims, assertions, and conclusions are supported by credible sources and evidence.

A bachelor's degree in English, journalism, technical communication, or a related field is required.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical editing, writing, or content management, preferably in a technical or scientific field. Proven record of accomplishment editing technical documents, reports, manuals, or other complex materials.

Security Clearance: Tier 3 (T3) or Tier-3 Reinvestigation (T3R).

Exceptional editing skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Experience in editing technical content for clarity, consistency, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style. Ability to ensure adherence to editorial standards, guidelines, and specifications.

Strong technical knowledge or aptitude to understand complex technical concepts, terminology, and subject matter. Experience in editing technical documents across various industries such as engineering, IT, healthcare, or aerospace.

Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and coherent content. Ability to rewrite or restructure technical content for readability and comprehension. Experience in improving content flow, organization, and coherence.

Familiarity with style guides and standards such as the Chicago Manual of Style, APA Style, or industry-specific style guides. Ability to apply style rules consistently and appropriately to ensure consistency across documents.

Experience in managing documents throughout the editing process, including version control, tracking changes, and collaborating with authors, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge of quality assurance processes and techniques to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of technical content. Experience in conducting quality checks, proofreading, and verifying references, citations, and data.

Proficiency in editing and markup tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or other editing software. Experience in using track changes, comments, and annotations to provide feedback and suggestions to authors.

Experience in managing multiple editing projects simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
