Northern California Public Media (NorCal) is currently seeking a Broadcast Engineer & IT technician to join the engineering team for our broadcast facility which includes our television stations KRCB and KPJK, and our FM stations KRCB-FM and KRCG-FM. Based in Sonoma County, CA, NorCal serves the San Francisco Bay area broadcast region. NorCal offers PBS and NPR programming to the diverse communities of more than 11 counties which our broadcasts reach. NorCal also delivers our radio and TV content via multiple streaming options (via Web/iOS/Android/Roku, etc).

Essential Job Duties:
- Understand the signal flow of analog and digital video, audio, and RF signals through our complex production and broadcast systems, in order to assist operations and production staff.
- Deploy and maintain technical equipment and computer-based systems associated with the operation of NorCal to broadcast engineering standards.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings to effectively install coax, wiring, and cabling in addition to networking equipment, and utilize such drawings to troubleshoot problems during and after installation.
- Install, troubleshoot and board-level repair of electronic and mechanical equipment, as is required for the operation of our facilities (video servers, automation systems, etc.)
- Support VoIP phone system, as a co-administrator
- Network administration utilizing Working knowledge of network technologies involving Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and Virtual Private Networks (VPN).Provide support on Microsoft 365 best practices and features related to Active Directory Manage O365 subscriptions, Microsoft licensing and user management
- Work as part of the Engineering team to ensure proper equipment operation and provide optimum quality, while adhering to all FCC rules and regulations.
- Diagnose problems using standard practices and test equipment.
- Able to identify problems and prioritize the repair and replacement of equipment.
- Work closely with the other departments in the maintenance and operation of their associated equipment.
- Have in-depth knowledge of computer networking, cabling, software installation, and repairs.
- Assist our outsourced IT management company in the daily end-user issues that arise. While a small portion of the job, this function is an important support role.
- Work with outside vendors regarding configuration/commissioning of equipment, and installation of systems.
- Must have a service-orientated attitude towards staff and co-workers. Enjoying teaching people about technology is a big plus.
- Install and maintenance/update of various software packages and hardware components in computer-based equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of network technologies involving Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
- Provide support on Microsoft 365 best practices and features related to Active Directory
- Manage O365 subscriptions, Microsoft licensing and user management
- Ensure the security and compliance of Microsoft 365 environments, including Active Directory
- Windows Server environment: including Active Directory for authentication and policy administration (it’s a plus if you’ve utilized locally-hosted virtualized application servers).
- Must have attention to detail with great accuracy
- Networking: Firewall configuration, TCP/IP routing, VLAN configuration, and network troubleshooting , etc.) \
- Must have the ability to make decisions and take prompt action independently
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities
- General knowledge and understanding of digital video, digital audio, and radio/television broadcasting.
- General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the FCC is a plus.
- Advanced computer skills preferred:
- Some IT desktop support experience.
- Mac experience a plus.
- Experience with Audio over IP (AoIP, or digital audio systems)
- Experience with digital video (especially broadcast-oriented formats).
- Familiarity with backup systems, developing data-security strategies, and confirming data recovery procedures.
- Adobe Creative Cloud (Suite) applications a plus.
- This position requires a (shared) “on-call” status when emergencies or breakdown of critical equipment occurs to the operation of NorCal broadcasts Must be able to work alone and unsupervised when necessary
- Ability to understand and teach the operation of some technical equipment/systems to persons in other departments of NorCal.
Compensation:
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours/week, M-F) position with a salary of $70,000 - $80,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 403B, paid vacation and holidays, floating holidays, flexible work schedule, employee assistance program and diversity training programs.
