HLG is looking to hire an intern to join our fast-paced New York City team, with a particular focus on supporting the Global Coalition on Aging, which HLG conceived, created, and manages. GCOA is now the world’s leading business voice on aging policy and strategy, with a broad-based global agenda executed from HLG’s New York office. Interns will be exposed to a range of consulting work in the fields of strategic communications, public affairs, public policy, and business strategy. Interns will have many responsibilities, including conducting public policy-related research; drafting client deliverables, such as bio books, newsletters, press releases, and social media content; constructing reports for internal and client-facing presentations; and assisting with administrative duties.
The internship will be based in High Lantern Group’s New York City office and will run from August/September through December, with an opportunity to continue. Candidates will be expected to commit to a part-time position (15-20 hours per week). The start date is flexible. It is anticipated that this role will be virtual, but interns will have access to our offices.
Responsibilities
- Conducting public policy-related research across a range of topics, including health and healthcare, demography, finance, and technology
- Drafting social media strategies and collateral for multiple platforms, including compelling visual content, managing dissemination, and tracking impact
- Drafting client deliverables and other collateral, including fact sheets, messaging documents, newsletters, and press releases
- Identifying key influencers on relevant issues and important forums where client topics are debated and discussed
- Maintaining client information databases
- Contributing to meeting and event management, both inside and outside the office, including RSVP lists, external venue identification, catering coordination and meeting set-up Assisting with client administration and support, as needed
Experience and Attributes
- Current MA students preferred, but strong BA candidates with demonstrated intern and work experience will be considered
- Motivated self-starter with experience or interest in strategic communications, business, politics, and public policy
- Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and the capacity to balance multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong professional presence
- High-energy, resourceful, and solutions-oriented
- Fluent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word), Google Drive, Canva, and major social media platforms
- Experience with spreadsheets and other data farming techniques
- Experience developing eye-catching social media content
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks

High Lantern Group provides a competitive hourly rate for our interns. A reasonable estimate of the rate for new joiners for this role is $18-$22/ hour. Actual rates may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to an individual's experience and expertise.
