Jefferson Public Radio (JPR) is seeking a senior producer for its weekday one-hour civic affairs program, The Jefferson Exchange. The producer works in collaboration with the program’s host to steer the journalistic and creative direction of the show as a reflection of life in Southern Oregon and far Northern California. The Jefferson Exchange engages JPR’s audience in the issues that are important to people – current news, solving long-term community problems, regional politics, arts and culture. The producer is responsible for overall editorial planning, scheduling guests and providing background material on guests to the host. The producer identifies newsworthy and interesting topics and facilitates interviews with newsmakers and civic leaders to address those topics. The position is based at JPR's main studios, located on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon.
We're looking for someone to join us to:
- Identify topics and civic issues of regional interest to citizens of Southern Oregon and Northern California and book guests for the Jefferson Exchange who can illuminate JPR listeners and provide relevant facts about those issues and topics. Coordinate all logistics related to guest appearances on the program. Write and prepare background information for the Jefferson Exchange host.
- Produce Jefferson Exchange podcast segments weekly with community hosts/producers.
- Update the JPR website and digital platforms using JPR content management system.
- Oversee and schedule board operators and assist community content producers to record segments for the program. Fill in for Jefferson Exchange board operators and Morning Edition Host as needed.
