Join a fun team and rapidly growing children's museum in the heart of Salt Lake City. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and friendly people, you will be located downtown at the Children's Museum, designing and fabricating new exhibits.
We have strong community support and you will be joining us as we build several new children's exhibits. To be considered for this role, applicants must have design and construction experience as this position builds new exhibits from start to finish creating designs and actively works alongside our hardworking facilities/building team to construct the exhibits.
Responsibilities
- Design special exhibitions and gallery installations through all phases of a project, and under tight deadlines
- On assigned projects, act as a 3D design representative within the project team
- Work closely with and integrate the contributions of curatorial, graphic design, interpretation, conservation, and media
- Generate conceptual designs, including illustrations, renderings, digital models, and other related materials
- Present design package to corporate sponsors
- Conduct research that relates to the projects
- Create design documents that include schematics, layouts, finished designs, and construction drawings in both 2D and 3D formats
- Must be able to construct exhibits and lead our friendly facilities/building crew in design projects
- Collaborate with fabricators and internal team participants to successfully implement exhibition designs
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's in design or related field, i.e., exhibit design, interior design, furniture design, museum studies (additional education may be substituted for some experience).
- 2-4 years of experience as an exhibition designer, preferably in a museum, or as a designer in an exhibition-related field
- Proven capabilities to develop creative, innovative, and aesthetically sophisticated solutions to complex design problems.
- Must be process driven, demonstrate strong visual design skills, possess a careful attention to detail, appreciate exhibits in all its many forms and have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles
- Must be creative, energetic, innovative designer with excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
- Experience in CAD-based design solutions and mixed physical-digital environmental design.
- Thorough understanding of construction and fabrication processes
- Must be adept at being part of a highly collaborative team, maintaining tight timeframes, and working constructively with a wide array of stakeholders
- Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of ADA requirements and OSHA regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of methods and techniques of the trades (museum exhibit techniques; museum practices, protocol and ethics; design and graphic design principles;) required.
- Experience in vendor management/performance and negotiation of contracts, including analyzing of RFPs and vendor bids to determine best course of action.
- Ability to create and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a deadline driven environment.
- Experience using tools and performing general repairs and maintenance.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work independently and exhibit initiative to solve problems, including tracking situations until appropriate resolution is achieved.
- Microsoft Office knowledge (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Adobe Creative Cloud; Fusion360 and/or AutoCAD (or similar).
- Must have car and Valid UT drivers’ license.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
