General Assignment Reporter Position at Rome News-Tribune
The Rome News-Tribune is seeking a general assignment reporter.
An ideal candidate would possess a passion for writing, and would be committed to reporting on the issues of a small, but growing community with accuracy and fairness while telling the stories of its citizens.
Applicants should be self-motivated with an ability to meet deadlines, develop sources, dig for stories of interest to our readers, take quality photographs, and work within the constraints of AP style guidelines. The reporter will need to be organized and able to juggle multiple assignments and competing priorities with urgency.
Smaller newspapers offer a reporter to work on a variety of stories without getting trapped in a specific beat, covering a variety of topics such as crime, government, education, the arts, history and human interest features. An ability to cover local sports is a plus, but not a requirement.
Occasionally, some weekend and evening work may arise if the schedule dictates, but the position is meant to be a Monday through Friday assignment. A knowledge of content management systems, Google Docs, and Slack is a plus, but not required.
Newspaper is owned by Georgia-based Times-Journal Inc. The Rome News-Tribune is a daily newspaper that publishes five times weekly in print and seven days a week online. The RN-T has been serving Rome and Northwest Georgia for 180 years.
