The Office of Communications and Engagement is searching for a social media specialist with graphic design experience who can help the county communicate and engage with its residents and employees.
About This Role:
The Social Media Specialist will manage and create content for the organization's social media platforms and engage with county residents by implementing content strategies on various social media platforms. The responsibilities will include creating and posting content, creating and updating social media posting schedules and editorial calendar, responding to comments, working with colleagues to create digital campaigns, analyzing engagement data and identifying trends to help build a more dynamic and engaged online community. The position will also be responsible for assisting with graphic design in the office and helping to create and post content to communicate and boost engagement with employees.
Roles and Responsibilities
Social Media
- Create, manage and post original and high-quality content across the county’s various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X and NextDoor.
- Create content for the Office of Communications and Engagement, as well as content for agencies that don't have their own social media channels.
- Work with agency communications analysts to share their content via the office’s social media channels.
- Schedule posts in advance or post them in real time.
- Create social media content calendar.
- Share relevant content from other agencies that have social media channels.
- Manage the office’s social media accounts to ensure relevant and up-to-date content is posted.
- Respond to questions and messages the county receives through social media.
- Analyze data and metrics to provide reports on user engagement, reach and ROI and use this data to drive engagement.
In addition, the following points should be kept in mind while creating engaging social media content:
- The content should adhere to the county’s branding guidelines and include graphics, reels, carousels, and supporting text for posts.
- Social content should be created for organizational marketing campaigns based on designs/graphics from the Senior Communications Analyst.
- The social media editorial calendar should be maintained with an emphasis on strategic, timely and relevant posting.
- Monitor the community newsletter, county events calendar and other organizational activities for social media content opportunities.
- Participation in strategic planning for social media related to more extensive campaigns is required.
- Monthly social media metrics should be provided and understood.
- Social media platforms and their differences should be understood, and posts should be adjusted/created based on platform best practices.
- Staying current with general and government social media trends is a must.
The Social Media Specialist must have graphic design experience, as they will create graphics for social media, as well as assist the Senior Communication Analyst, to include, but not limited to:
- Creating graphics for the website, intranet, online community newsletter and TV channel.
- Resizing images/graphics for different applications, as necessary.
- Completing layout for graphic projects.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Social Media Specialist position should possess a range of skills, including, but not limited to:
- Social media expertise: The Social Media Specialist must be able to regularly create and post text, images and videos on social media platforms that engage county residents and respond to their questions while adhering to brand guidelines. This includes creating effective campaigns with the ability to identify target audiences’ preferences and producing tailored content.
- Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role. The Social Media Specialist should collaborate with the Communications and Engagement colleagues and other department stakeholders to develop effective communication strategies that provide county residents with the necessary information.
- Creativity: Crafting engaging content is essential. The Social Media Specialist should continuously create content that interests and engages county residents using graphic design skills.
- Technology proficiency: Computer skills, knowledge of social media platforms, and proficiency in using tools that manage and analyze social media platforms are essential for this position. In addition, knowledge of Adobe CC design software, specifically Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, is required. The Social Media Specialist should use digital technologies to achieve the goals of social media campaigns.
- Research skills: The Social Media Specialist should be able to identify new social media tools and learn social media trends. They should also have adequate knowledge of social media trends and techniques to handle social media marketing effectively.
- Time management: The Social Media Specialist should have excellent organizational skills to manage tasks and meet deadlines. They should work according to schedules and ensure that marketing goals are met.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 4 years of related experience.
Preferences:
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in internet marketing, journalism, public relations or communications. In addition, candidates need to have an extensive knowledge of various social media platforms and how to create engaging content for them. Candidates should have knowledge of and experience with tools and software that manage content across multiple platforms and design software for creating content. Candidates are required to have one to two years of social media work experience,
and preferably have an understanding of local government structure and operations. Candidates who are proficient at translating content into Spanish are preferred.
Special Requirements:
The Social Media Specialist is expected to have substantial experience using social media for marketing purposes. Candidates should possess one to two years of experience in writing, social media marketing, or public relations and be able to demonstrate the expertise required for this position.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., evenings and weekends as necessary
Starting Salary Range:
$64,311.00 - $80,391.55 Annually
