Technical Editor:. The qualified candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, and/or Journalism and is naturally drawn to identifying and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. The Technical Editor supports the Sr. Quality Assurance Specialist in ensuring all artifacts developed by the organization adhere to best practices and established standards/conventions to achieve 99.5% accuracy for all deliverables. This full-time position is a 100% remote opportunity with expectations to satisfy core working hour expectations (approx. 8 AM to 5 PM EST).
Job Summary:
The successful Technical Editor applicant:
- Possesses a strong command of the English language with a passion for proofreading, writing, and editing to produce error-free artifacts.
- Precisely and accurately identifies and corrects errors ranging from high-level content issues (e.g., logic, flow, consistency) to fine details (e.g., formatting, bullet structure, punctuation, font/size selection, logo placement) of lengthy technical artifacts across a team of teams.
- Possesses the stamina to proofread/edit technical material thoroughly, completely, and analytically.
- Recommends opportunities for improvement across the organization’s deliverables in service of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Creates reference materials, style guides, job aids, etc. to support QA goals and organization-wide accountability and responsibility for quality.
- Addresses and discusses issues and proposed solutions with the Senior QA Specialist.
The Technical Editor (internally identified as Quality Assurance Specialist) critically reviews and recommends revisions to correct or improve contract deliverables and final products according to established quality standards. Working under the guidance and direction of the Senior QA Specialist, the Technical Editor supports contract-specific and organization-wide initiatives to achieve 99.5% accuracy goals by adhering to best practices regarding grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, flow, customer-specific standards, etc. The QA Team recommends and implements areas of improvement in workflow, standard operating procedures, and reporting requirements for all deliverables or services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or related field and related work experience/history to include internships (e.g., writing tutor, editor for newspaper/magazine).
NOTE:: Foreign education transcripts are accepted only if successfully evaluated for accreditation by one of the two national associations of credential evaluation services designated by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and U.S. Department of Education:
- National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
- Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).
- Candidate is responsible for providing evaluation accreditation letter.
- Proven experience as an editor/writer or similar role (e.g., proofreader, copyeditor).
- Meticulous attention to detail that supports 99.5% error-free deliverables.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and implement existing standards and protocols in service of customer satisfaction.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multi-functional teams and program stakeholders.
- Ability to work remotely and independently in a distraction-free environment and excellent organizational and teamwork skills.
- Capability to support established work schedule during organization’s core working hours (approx. 8 AM to 5 PM EST) to include timely responsiveness to emails and chats/instant messages.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation (National Criminal History Check (NCHC)) and drug screen.
- Ability to obtain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card to support customers (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident only).
