The nation’s largest public radio newsroom is looking for a versatile reporter to help drive our coverage of the city’s arts and culture news.

The Reporter, Culture & Arts, plays a critical role in the WNYC/Gothamist newsroom, ensuring that the most relevant, timely news makes it to our airwaves and website.

You should be comfortable reporting on a wide range of topics including art, food, theater, fashion, music and more. You have the ability to generate scoops and exclusives, while balancing bigger trend stories, profiles, event guides and other features.

This reporter will write stories for Gothamist.com along with assisting the radio shows by digging into the latest happenings for broadcast.

The right candidate holds themselves to the highest levels of journalistic excellence and works well across departments. They thrive in a fast-paced environment and love the ever-changing nature of the news.

Responsibilities:

Report and produce daily news stories in both text and audio form that are clear, thorough, fair, timely, culturally relevant and accurate.
Conceive, source and pitch stories on a variety of topics that will engage listeners and readers.
Consistently meet deadlines on daily news while balancing enterprise stories.
Develop sources that lead to scoops our audience can’t get elsewhere.
Effectively coordinate with other editors and digital journalists for maximum reach across our platforms.
Work in-person at NY Public Radio’s newsroom and be available to be deployed to report in the field whenever necessary

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of professional daily news experience
Aptitude and comfort with using a broad range of media, including audio and text
Ability to move ideas quickly from concept to completion
Ability to see the story that’s going to engage readers and to anticipate reader interests
Deft writing and editing skills, including the ability to sharpen or rewrite copy under immediate deadline pressure
Sophisticated communication skills, including oral, written, and public speaking
Deep commitment to accurate, ethical journalism; and impeccable journalistic integrity and judgment
Demonstrated knowledge of complex social and cultural issues
Self-starter with proven ability to meet deadlines and pay close attention to detail and fact-checking
Ability to manage several story assignments concurrently
Demonstrated commitment and ability to contribute an equity lens to every aspect of reporting
The ability to work effectively and/or interact with the public and with other staff at New York Public Radio

Additional Information

This is a full-time role exempt role with a salary range of $84,413-$86,000 per year (plus a full benefits package). Salary offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, personal and sick time as well as inclusive family leave.

This reporter is expected to be in the field multiple days per week and spend time in New York Public Radio’s SoHo headquarters

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.
